Pacific Coastline - we made it to Santa Monica

"Welcome to the Hotel California….."

We decided to take the 12 mile cruise into Santa Monica from the Interstate down the 'Santa Monica Boulevard' the last section of the original Route 66 finishing at the Pier. It was a great experience even though the traffic was quite heavy.  We rode past the famous live music venue 'The Troubadour' club where one of my all time favourite bands Guns & Roses played their first ever show in the 1980's and were discovered there by David Geffen and the rest is history as they say.  Some of the greatest acts in the world have started their careers there.

Seeing the pacific ocean as we neared our hotel, which is right on the beach was quite emotional…..we had made it, still alive, our first phase of the tour completed.

Do it yourself 'valet' parking just the way we like it.

Now that is a beautiful sight….we are heading up that way soon for almost 1200 miles.

Our first bottle of champagne, real champagne 'Moet & Chandon' since thirty days ago leaving London Airport - boy did it taste good!  We just had to celebrate making it to the Pacific Coast and the completion of the first 'volume' of our adventure.

Just a quick clip of the beach a few miles up the Pacific Coast Highway at a restaurant called  Gladstones.  More later.

  1. Congratulations on making it to your first goal! Are you thinking of going south to the border and getting the "four corners"?

    1. Thanks Richard. We are heading North today, not far just up to the Santa Barbara area. It's going to be wonderful over the coming week as we only gave 80 - 100 mile rides each day. Plenty of time to soak up the California sunshine and scenery.

Richard's got a good idea. You've come so far. Might as well get another corner of the USA in. Welcome to the West Coast
