Not quite Mardi-Gras, but a great night in New Orleans

They say "what happens in New Orleans…..stays in New Orleans!"  What a crazy, edgy exciting and totally wild place it is.  We visited the French Quarter last night and in particular Bourbon Street where most of the action takes place.  After visiting 'Voodoo Harley-Davidson' on Decatur Street to buy yet another T-Shirt we came across 'The Cigar Factory' where they hand-roll them all on site.  I just had to treat myself to a few (again!) and the one I had after dinner tasted sublime and easily on a par with any of the Cuban cigars I normally smoke at home, oh and about 75% cheaper.  I wish I had bought a box now!  We had dinner on Bourbon Street at a balcony table overlooking the partying crowds below.  It appears that New Orleans is the 'Hen Party' capital of America.  The smells and sounds were amazing, just about every bar on the street had a live music act playing from traditional Jazz to Blues to classic Rock n Roll, all with their doors open so you get to hear a complete blend of sound, quite an assault on the ears! After dinner we ended up in the 'Swamp' http://bourbon-swamp.com (check it out) on Bourbon street watching a band that had the place going wild, or was that the effect of the rum!   New Orleans is a classy place, well the French Quarter anyhow.  The atmosphere and vibe is amazing and for sure it should be a place you visit at least once in a lifetime.

  1. I've never been to New Orleans, but you make it sounds wonderful. I don't think I'd survive the hangover though.

  3. Buying too many t-shirts can be a real problem, but there is an easy solution. The US Postal Service is quite cheap and posting your older clothes back home is an easy option. Just walk in, ask for the relevant size box and go from there.
